November 07 Live Blog - Show 5The LIVE blog is running now...
As always just press F5 to refresh as we go along and I'll be here to blog all the action and have a good old natter... Let me know what you think of each performance and most importantly who should go! Will John and Edward make it through again??? So it's Movie Week and we've got everything from big ballads to a bit of rock and roll baby. Here's a sneak peek at the list before we start, any surprises? Personally, I'm really looking forward to Danyl's performance of Purple Rain and I think Olly's Twist & Shout will be fun to watch, he has such personality. I'm worried that Joe's song choice may be a little twee and cutesy though - fingers crossed he'll pull it out of the bag. Stacey Lucie Joe Lloyd Danyl Jamie Olly John and Edward SHOW STARTS:
Wow! The judges take to the stage to the theme from Star Wars and I have to say, Dannii looks absolutely stunning in that Princess Leia style dress. So who do we have?
Up first is Stacey Soloman and she's worried this week as she's struggling to be sexy. "I just find it difficult, I get embarrassed!" She performs Son Of A Preacher Man and she tries her best to pull it off, but her 'sexy' is still a little static. You can tell she's putting it on. It's vocally sound though and I think the outfit will have worked for all the boys out there - I never thought the wetlook leggings would ever come back.
Cheryl gushes, "It's great to see you looking so sexy and young. I thought that was your most confident performance."
Simon disagrees and says "it was like a normal talent show performance, you just don't feel anything after it. I don't think it was sexy and I think it was a lazy song choice - you're vunerable after that." Stacey replied "I had fun!"
Dannii shakes her head, "it just goes to show how out of touch Simon Cowell is. You're flirty, you're fun and you can tell by the audience reaction that it worked."
Mmmm... I think she'll go through but I don't agree that it was her best. How about you?
I love Olly don't you?
He's doing Twist & Shout from Ferris Beuller's Day Off tonight and the judges are worried that Simon is choosing songs that are too similar. Me, I'm quite looking forward to it! No worries - Olly gives it his usual 'umph' and even throws in part of Michael Jackson's Thriller routine for good measure. As always his vocal pops!
Great fun but not as good (or sexy) as last week.
Louis smiles, "Olly everybody likes you but I wasn't happy about the silly dancing. Simon picked a silly song for a great singer."
Dannii didn't get why there was an homage to Thriller in the middle (she's obviously not seen Ferris Beuller's Day Off!)
Cheryl points out, "if you haven't seen the film that was quite random."
The crowd are going wild and Simon addresses the judges, "I'm sorry you guys but the audience are speaking (they roar). It was fun and great entertainment." The crowd start chanting "Olly! Olly! Olly!"
I don't know how Louis can talk about silly songs, erm... Jedward - Duh!
Poor Lloyd... This is just totally the wrong song. I have to agree with Louis it's too low for him. He trying to perform his own version of Stand By Me but no amount of runs and warbles can help - he's relying on the teen vote tonight or it will be bottom two time.
Louis wasn't impressed. "It's much better than you were last week but I think at this stage in the competition, you're out of your depth. I don't think you're good enough - we have four better male singers."
Cheryl thinks it was his most comfortable performance, especially after taking the knock last week but Dannii's not convinced. "You lost it a little bit when you dropped off the high note, it was a nice performance."
Simon cuts to the chase, "nice like having tea with your mum! In all honesty you were out of your depth. Your voice just wasn't big enough."
I'm interested to see what Jamie does with Roy Orbison's Crying. I have to say though, how many top rock movie numbers are there. I miss Jamie rocking out - and I don't mean like last week with all the silly air punching.
It's a great straight to camera performance and Jamie's obviously chuffed with it - he flings his arms in the air at the end. It was emotional and heartfelt. He kept the tone warm and it flowed well...
Louis moans about what movie this song was in and Simon sets him straight. Louis says Jamie was incredible but he's never heard of the film so "Simon's cheating!" Simon points out that it's not about the movie, it's about the song he sung. "Jamie this is all about you and that was incredible."
Dannii agrees with me that it was heartfelt and Cheryl thinks it was a good idea to change the song, "It was your best performance yet".
Where does Louis get off ranting about cheating? Five words... Ricky Martin, Big Band, Jedward! Lucie's performing This Is Me tonight and I really don't think that the song's will relate to all. Pah! Camp Rock song - Bleugh!
It's like she's gone from Avril Lavigne to High School Musical, I much prefered last week's effort. Don't get me wrong, she floors it vocally but I'm not sold - a lot of people won't know the song and it's all a bit wet.
Louis disagrees with me. "Very good song choice, very contemporary, you look like a pop star and I think you are going to be last girl standing - you have star quality." Cheryl loved it, "I wasn't familiar with the song choice, but it could have been your song. You need to look like you are enjoying it more, sometimes you don't look like you're enjoying it as much as you should."
I felt sorry for Danyl last week, he had a really hard time. I'm hoping he's going to blow the roof off with Purple Rain - I love the song as does Alice over on Twitter. Simon hopes he'll be amazing and Danni has her fingers crossed that he'll get his mojo back. "I want to see one of those BIG Danyl performances!"
He's shaved his hair off!
I'm disappointed with the personality but amazed by the vocal. Danyl gives it his all and hits every note, but it's like he lost that sparkle in his eye from the first audition. Even when he jumps from the podium, it's not with the gusto that he had before. The falsetto section at the end is nothing short of sensational.
I hope the judges give him rave reviews, he needs the boost.
Louis gushes, "If we were judging on vocal ability, you've got it all - I think you're going to be in the final."
But what will Cheryl have to say?
She's usually cutting with Danyl. "I was very impressed with your demeanor tonight Danyl. It's like you've dropped that cocky attitude and it was a great performance." Shocker!
Simon can't compliment him enough. "Let's just go back to last week and what I said about this show. That was an amazing vocal and I think we have found an amazing singer, who last week was broken... I think you're gonna go on and have a great career, I'm very proud of you tonight Danyl."
Dannii loved the falsetto at the end but not the screaming. "You're voice is very good, but you need to really use it."
Bring on the freaks!
Yes, yes, it's time for John and Edward - Blah, blah, blah... Can't I just leave this bit blank? I'm looking for them, where are they?
Lord, they're in the bloody car! Ghosts, proton packs and boiler suits - all very predictable but still funny I have to admit. They're not even trying to sing anymore, they're just running around like five year olds. ![]() Thank God, they give a completely kack performance of Ghostbusters and hopefully that will be it. I thought it was just plain silly. Dannii is smiling but has still had enough. "It's a singing competition and you either talk or you rap."
Cheryl is a fan, "You bring fun to this show. Whether people love or hate you, it's fun to watch." ... and Simon shocks me, "I think we've established that you can't sing but this was actually a good song choice for you. This was sort of good!" Trying a bit of reverses psychology there Cowell?
What did you think of the Grimes Ghostbusters tonight?
Joe always looks so happy to be part of this show. He's performing Circle of Life and I'm just hoping he's gonna hold back the cheese and keep this one as serious as he can - this song is always better performed that way. The last thing he wants is to appear too 'musical theatre' the judges won't thank him for that.
It's a pleasant performance but I like less movement and more vocal from Joe.
Louis throws a blow below the belt. "You tick all the boxes vocally but I do think you are more musical theatre than pop star." It's a musical theatre song Louis!
Dannii can't stop clapping! "You are the best male vocalists in the competition. My only critique would be, I'd like less of a production. I love it when you just perform the song."
Simon thought it was a cracking vocal but wants to see more confidence "I want to see less of this stage school swagger. I want to see you confident, take the mic."
Cheryl is overjoyed. "You're like a little brother to me and I'm so proud to see you up there performing like that."
So that's it - Who are your bottom two?
